How does Frodo Baggins fit into the modern society?

Frodo fits into the modern society because he is just a normal being like us. He may be a short Hobbit, however, Hobbits are quite similar in nature to human beings, if not lazier. Therefore, he's someone that we can all look to because there is no other characteristics about him that sets him apart from us that gave him an extra boost in his heroic achievements. Not to mention that he's not perfect. Society is not perfect and that's another thing we can relate to. The fact that he goes through mistakes, but is able to push himself through is another characteristics that makes in a hero within us. It also lets us relate to him on a more personal level.

What does this show about society?

Frodo was not the strongest, smartest, biggest guy in this story. There were other more physically able characters that seemed more "worthy" to take the hero role. However, Frodo took it and he shows us that one can not rely on strength and power to be a hero, more like will power and stamina to endure challenges. In Frodo's society, all the others also accepted him as a hero and this shows us that they saw Frodo as someone worthy, no matter the size, or build.

It also shows quite an extreme case of the temptations of a mortal. We all get temptations and so does Frodo. Society likes to be able to relate to something. For example, a child is more likely to act a certain way if another does so, especially someone older, and more "heroic". Since Frodo is quite similar to us, we, as the society, like this better than some Superman with Superpowers because we can just relate better. He posesses qualities that make him more human.

“And here he was, a little halfling from the Shire, a simple hobbit of the quiet countryside, expected to find a way where the great ones could not go, or dared not go. It was an evil fate.”   ---The Two Towers
